1957
By a proclamation issued in 1813 the coins were called into Charlottetown, and the centres were punched out and given the value of a shilling. The remainder--a doughnut-shaped piece that came to be called a "holey" dollar--was worth five shillings.
1963
An illustration of such expedient is the "Holey Dollar." In order to prevent the citizens from taking the coins off the Island to areas where the exchange rate was higher, the authorities punched out the centre. The punched out disc was used as a shilling while the outer rim retained the 5s. Halifax currency value.
1964
The Holey Dollar is now a rare collector's item.
